Are you taking any over-the-counter or prescription medications for heartburn?

Do you have heartburn and take over-the-counter or prescription medication to treat it? If so, you could be killing yourself, quite literally. In 2017, CBS news warned Americans about the increase risk of taking Proton Pump Inhibitors. Now, I’m going to reiterate those risks and highlight other potentially harmful side effects of taking a PPI.

As research continues, the list of harmful and deadly side effects of taking a PPI continues to grow? Not only does it increase your risk of dying, but it may also cause:

  • Stomach infections - In 2016 researchers in Australia concluded that people taking PPIs are at an increased risk of having infectious gastroenteritis.

  • Kidney disease - According to John Hopkins University, patients taking PPIs are 20% to 50% more likely to develop chronic kidney disease.

  • Heart Disease - Upon examining records of 2.9 million patients, researches found a connection between PPIs and heart disease.

  • Dementia - Researchers in Germany found that people over 75 taking a PPI have a 44% increase in dementia.

  • Death - Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis recently found that patients taking PPIs have a 25% increase risk of death. Researchers also found the longer the patient was on the medication, the higher the risk of death. (This is very disturbing to me because doctors are still prescribing this medication.)

Are you taking any of these medications...Prilosec, Prilosec OTC, Zegerid, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium, Dexilant? If you are taking one of these medications whether it be prescribed or over-the-counter, contact me and let's talk about a more natural way to approach your disease process.
